FULL PROGRAM

DAY 1, WELCOME TO LIMA

Arrive in Lima, Peru's capital, that was founded in 1535 AD by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro. It was built on the Pacific coast, by the Rimac River and close to the natural harbour of Callao, on land that had already been inhabited for thousands of years. Today Lima is a modern city, but there are obvious reminders of its ancient and colonial past.

Our hotel is literally 5 minutes away from the Lima International Airport. Depending the time of our arrival, we will check in to our hotel. The rest of the day is free to either rest, or hit the roard of Lima.

DAY 2, EXPLORE LIMA

A full day of sightseeing on our second day will take on an exploration of the Cathedral of Lima, which was built on the site of the Inca shrine of the Puma Inti and the palace of the Cuscoan prince Sinchi Puma, a direct descendant of the Inca Richi Roca. More to find out of course on location during our visit. Our exploration in the city of Lima will continue among other places to the City Hall Square, The Palacio Municipal de Lima or City Hall of Lima which is a public building that serves as headquarters of the Metropolutan Municipality of Lima and it is located on the street Portal de Escribanos, in front of the Plaza Mayor of Lima’s historic centre.

Our transportation will be by bus and it will take about 4 hours. The rest of the day is free to explore more of Lima. A Specific guide will be offered to you to see the what you will see, and what else is there to look for. The city is also gaining a reputation as a culinary centre; try some ceviche (fish marinated in citrus) or sip on a Pisco sour.

DAY 3, CUSCO

Rising early, we head literally across our hotel for our early flight to Cusco. We arrive into the fascinating city an hour and 30 minutes later and we take a taxi to our hotel. Cusco is located at 3400 meters of of altitude, we will have to give ourselfs the time to acclimatize. The rest of the day is free to rest and to wander around the city. A City guide will be offered at our hotel with a lot of information about the city.

DAY 4, SACRED VALLEY

A busy day but very exciting day is ahead of us, After our breakfast at the Hotel we will be picked up by our Tour operator to head out to Sacred Valley, one of the most famous archaeological site in Peru. It will take us about 1 hour and 40 minutes to reach our destination. Our tour guide will take us to some of the most impressive ruins in the area, including the Pisac Archaeological Park and the Ollantaytambo Fortress. The Pisac ruins consist of ceremonial baths, residential quarters and the largest Inca cemetery. The sites are perched atop a mountain that overlooks the village and its sweeping terraces where the Inca grew their crops. Ollantaytambo Fortress is another magnificent site. It is one of the most sophisticated examples of Inca architecture and town planning, and the site of the Incas greatest defeat against the Spanish.

Our second stop is the Maras Salt Mines, over 3,000 ponds, locally owned by 600 local families, make up the picturesque Maras, all connected through an impressive underground network of canals that fill these pools with salt water. Over time, the intense sun will slowly evaporate the water leaving behind the salt that is later extracted through ancestral techniques by local family members.

Another site that we will explore is the Urubamba River, one of the main tributaries of the Ucayali River, which flows into the Amazon River. For the Incas this river was considered sacred and feeds all the cultures of the sacred valley of the Incas. It is the river of the famous "Sacred Valley" but it also passes just next to Machu-Picchu where it makes a loop around the site.

Our tour is 10 hours, so its going to be an exciting but long day!

DAY 5, INCA TRAIL, WAYLLABAMBA

Our guide will pick us up from our hotel at 5:30 am to depart to the beginning of the Inca Trail named Km82. During our ascent, among other signts, we will have the opportunity to see the snowcapped peak of the Veronica Mountain, which lies at 5700 meters of altitude. Our hike continues towards the Wayllabamba region where we will camp for the night. Our hike today will take us about 5 hours.

DAY 6, INCA TRAIL, PACAMAMAYO

We will enjoy our breakfast in nature, before we head out for the famous Dead Woman’s Pass which lies at 4200 meters of altitude. It will take us about 3 hours to cross this point. Right after our descent continues to the Pakaymayou Valley. It will take us about 1 hour and 30 minutes to get there. We will make a stop there for our lunch. Right after our descent will continue for another 2 hours. This is where we will set camp for the night and enjoy a beautiful dinner.

DAY 7, INCA TRAIL, WINAY HUAYNA

After our early wake up call and outdoor breakfast, we will ascent to the archaeological sight Rankourakey, which lies at 4000 meters. Right after our ascent to Pakaymayu Valley, we will descent to the Phuya Patamarka region which lies at 3600 meters of altitude. We will enjoy our lunch and head down to Winay Huayna, where we will set camp. Todays trek will take us about 6 hours.

DAY 8, INCA TRAIL, MACHU PICCHU

Today we are having an early breakfast, and we will then hike for about an hour to reach the Sun Gate. We have already reached Machu Picchu, and we have about 2 hours to explore the wonders of this extraordinary site. After our historic visit at Machu Picchu, we will descent to the city of Ollantaytambo to catch the train to return to Cusco, where we will spend the night.

DAY 9, RAINBOW MOUNTAIN

Today we need to wake up very early. Our departure time is at 3:30 am, I know its quite harsh. We will be picked from our hotel to head out for today’s adventure.  Prepare yourselves to explore this amazing site. We will trek on quite high altitude today that will exceed 5000 meters, please be prepared.  Right after our ascent, we will head back to Cusco, and make a stop for lunch.

DAY 10, PUERTO MALDONADO, AMAZON

Today is our last day in Cusco. After our breakfast at the hotel, we will take a taxi for the airport. We will fly out to Puerto Maldonado in Amazon, which is our next destination.  On our arrival to Puerto Maldonado, we will take a taxi to visit the local headquarters of the resort we will stay in the Amazon. We will be then transferred to the port for our 45- minute boat ride to the resort.  We will check into our hotel in the jungle and head to visit a tall tower, to get the look and feel where exactly we are.

DAY 11, PUERTO MALDONADO, AMAZON

Right after our breakfast at this unique lodge, we will hike to later on get on board on a traditional catamaran to explore the sight and life of the Oxbow lake. We will then return to our hotel to hike to a new destination to see from close enough these colorful parrots. Later in the afternoon, we will depart on a boat to explore a botanical site to see the plants and herbs that grow in the region. We will also hike overnight to visit the mammals who are more active during the night.

DAY 12, LIMA

Today is our last day in Posada Amazonas. After breakfast we will be transferred to the airport for our flight to Lima. Our flight will take us where our adventure started. We will stay at the same hotel where we stayed when we arrived in Lima 2 weeks ago.

DAY 13, FLY HOME

Our flight today is our return trip back home, full of a lot of memories to share in our luggage.
