Set out on a trekking adventure through the remote Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. Explore timeless mountain villages, spectacular fortresses, and ornate shrines as you trek across this bastion of Buddhist culture, and meet local people from different walks of life to gain insights into the secrets of Bhutan’s wellbeing.

FULL PROGRAM

DAY 1, WELCOME TO BHUTAN

Arrive at any time and transfer to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. In clear weather, the flight over the Himalayas offers magnificent views of the world’s highest peaks as they give way to the lush green Paro valley. The first gift from Bhutan will be the cool, clean fresh air as you step off the plane. After clearing customs and visa control, an arrival transfer will take you to Thimphu.

The adventure begins today. Right after our check in at our hotel, we will head out for sightseeing. We will visit “Ta Dzong” Bhutan’s National Museum , “Rinpung Dzong” a fortress built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan. The rest of the day is free to settle in and enjoy this beautiful ancient city.

DAY 2, TREK TO TIGER’S NEST MONASTERY

Today is our second day in Bhutan. After our breakfast we will head out and drive to base camp of Tigers’s Nest Monastery, known as Taktsang Monastery, which is located on a cliff at the Upper Paro Valley. The story goes back in the 8th century where Guru Padmasambhava arrived here sitting on the back of a tiger back. We will gear up and trek up to the monastery, enjoying the landscape and spectacular views. It’s not a long hike, and we will arrive at the monastery’s cafeteria for a nice warm tea. We will have time to explore the monastery and the amazing views. We will hike back and transfer for a visit to Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines in Bhutan. The rest of the day is free to explore the city.

DAY 3, TREK TO JELE DZONG

Today our trekking begins, we will head out to the National Museum where our trail starts. On the trail we will have beutiful views of the Paro valley and the snow-capped mountains of the area. We will hike up for about 4 hours to reach our camp site which will be set near the ancient ruins of the Jele Dzong. From our campsite we will visit the Jele-la pass which is located at 3400 meters of altitude and also vsit the famous Lhakhang which accomodates the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni almost 4 meters tall. Our trek will take us 3 to 4 hours through pristine forests and valleys traversed by yak herders.

We will camp for the night in Jele Dzong.

DAY 4, TREK TO JANGCHULAKHA

In the morning we will enjoy our lovely breakfast at the campsite. We will go for a short hike in the area and then begin our ascent to reach our second camp site of Mt Jangchulakta which lies at 3780 meters of altitude. En route the beutiful monal birds will accompany us enjoying the views of the Mt. Jhomolhari region on our way to our camp north east of Jangchulakha. We will settle in our tents, enjoy a nice warm shower in special tents and enjoy a lovely dinner on this beautiful setting.

DAY 5, TREK TO JIMILANGTSHO

In the morning we will enjoy our breakfast and set out for our trek which starts with a short steep descent through the Juniper forest. Our trek from that point ion is pretty steady, entering the thick forest filled with dwarf rhododendrons all the way to Jangchu La which lies at 4180 meters of altitude. We will later on descent to our next camp which lies at 3880 meters of altitude. We will camp near the Sand Ox Lake, which was named after a bull that emerged from the lake and joined other animals which were feeding from the very rich greenery of the area. We will settle in our tents and enjoy a lovely meal.

DAY 6, TREK TO SIMKOTA

We head out today from our campsite on our way to Simkota which lies at 4040 meters of altitude. We will pass from the Jahny Tsho lake, where we will ascent to our summit which lies our next camp site. Our hike will take us about 6 hours long. This area is really exceptional incorporating the dry roughness with the beautiful trees, plants and lake. We will reach our camp site and take our time to enjoy the area near the camp site.

DAY 7, TREK TO PHAJODING

Our objective today is to enjoy the majestic views of Mt. Gangkar Puensum and nearby peaks. After our breakfast we will head out and descent towards the Phajoding Monastery, we will see from up there Thimphu town and the rest of the valley. Our en route is really beautiful and trully majestic. We will trek for about 5 hours and reach our camp site at Phajoding which lies at 3750 meters of altitude.

DAY 8, TREK TO THIMPHU

Today is our last day of trekking. Right after our breakfast we will start our descent on our way to the Thimphu valley. Following the trail downhill through a forested area with a lot blue pine trees, we will arrive at Thimphu within 4 hours. On our arrival we will check-in at our hotel. The rest of the day free to rest and perhaps go shopping.

DAY 9, THIMPHU

Today we are in Thimphu. We will keep our trekking poles at our hotel, and head out for sightseeing. We will visit the Memorial Chorten (The stupa built in the memory of Bhutan’s Third King), the Institute of Traditional Medicine, the Folk Heritage Museum, the Textile Museum, the Tashichho Dzong, and the Arts & Crafts School. Right after our visits we will drive to Paro.

DAY 10, FLY OUT

Today is our last day, our guide will transfer you at the airport for your flight home.
